Born in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, on April 26, 1970, First Lady Melania Trump is the wife of U.S. President Donald J. Trump and the mother of their only child, Barron Trump.
Before becoming First Lady (2017–2021), she enjoyed a successful international career as a model and businesswoman.
The daughter of Viktor Knavs (a sales manager at Slovenija avto) and Amalija Knavs (a designer at a children’s clothing factory called Jutranjka), Melania grew up in the picturesque town of Sevnica, Slovenia, a small community of about 5,000 inhabitants.
From a young age, she showed an interest in fashion, influenced by her mother, and by the age of five, she was already modeling for catalogs for the Jutranjka clothing company, where she participated in fashion shows alongside her older sister, Ines. The first was in Belgrade when Melania was only six years old. Her mother had invited her two daughters to model her latest creations on the runway.
That was the beginning of a remarkable story in her life, one that has led her to success in everything she has done and to where she is today: the First Lady of the United States.
During her time in the White House, she spearheaded the BE BEST initiative, focused on the well-being and future of children, and later founded Fostering the Future, a scholarship program for young people leaving the foster care system, funded through her blockchain-based digital platforms.
Throughout her life, she has been committed to numerous social causes, notably her work with organizations such as the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Love Our Children USA, among others.
In May 2025, she released her audiobook in English, with the Spanish version coming out in December. It is expected to be released in more languages in the coming months.
Her most recent project is her documentary, which premiered in theaters on January 30, 2026, and will later be available on Amazon Prime Video.
